DESCRIPTION

Before the Wrangler, before the Cherokee, before Jeep became a lifestyle brand — there was the Willys Wagon. This 1962 model is the direct descendant of the military utility vehicles that won WWII and then came home to go to work. With her slab-sided steel body, flat-fender stance, and go-anywhere four-wheel-drive guts, she's the most honest vehicle in the yard. No power steering, no power brakes, no apologies. What you see is what you get — a steel box on a ladder frame with a Hurricane four-banger that's seen better days. She's sitting in the dirt, waiting for someone with enough grit to drag her back to life.

EXTERIOR

The exterior is a classic two-tone light blue and white, though the paint is faded and showing its age. The body panels look relatively straight, but there's visible surface rust and patina, especially around the lower edges and front fenders. The iconic vertical-slat grille is intact, flanked by round headlights that still have their glass. The front bumper is chrome but shows some dings and a mounted winch setup. The hood is sitting slightly ajar, and the front passenger tire is completely flat, sinking into the dirt.

INTERIOR

No interior photos were provided, so the condition of the cabin is a mystery. Expect the worst and hope for the best — likely torn upholstery, missing gauges, and a floorpan that needs some serious attention. If it's anything like the outside, it's going to need a full overhaul.

UNDERCARRIAGE

We don't have any shots of the underbelly, but given she's been sitting in the dirt, you can bet there's some crust underneath. The ladder frame is likely solid, but you'll want to check the floor pans and suspension components for rot. The brakes are almost certainly drums all around and will need a complete rebuild before she stops again.

ENGINE

The seller notes mention a Hurricane four-cylinder engine, the legendary F-head 134 cu in powerplant that made these old Willys famous for their low-end grunt. We can't see under the hood, but assume it's non-running and will need a full teardown. The transmission is likely a manual, and the whole drivetrain will need a thorough going-over after sitting this long.

MODIFICATIONS

There's a winch mounted to the front bumper, a classic addition for a rig like this. The wheels appear mismatched, with a standard steelie on the front and a wider wheel with a white-letter tire on the rear.
