An online marketplace for classic cars, vintage motorcycles, project shells, rare parts, vintage guitars, and automobilia — built out of a real physical boneyard in Albuquerque, New Mexico, not out of a boardroom. We combine free peer-to-peer classifieds with curated live auctions, backed by AI-assisted listing tools, secure escrow settlement, and a trust framework that doesn't require you to just take somebody's word for it.

How is this different from the big classic car sites?

Most of them are either sterile, high-commission auction houses that won't touch anything that doesn't run, or uncurated free-for-alls with zero buyer protection. We built the gap between those two extremes: honest condition tiers from Hero Cars down to Donor Machines, an AI curator that decodes VINs and writes listing copy, and a real escrow pipeline for every high-value deal — whether it's a numbers-matching classic or a rusted shell somebody's finally ready to let go of.

Do I need an account to browse listings?

No. Browse freely. You'll need a registered account to message a seller, place a bid, submit an offer, or list something yourself — but window-shopping the yard costs nothing and requires nothing.

How do I create an account?

Sign up with email and password, or use one-click social sign-on through Google or Apple. Either way, you'll get a welcome email and — if you registered manually — an activation email to confirm you're really you.

What if I never verify my email?

We'll send a reminder 24 hours after signup if your account's still sitting unverified. After that, you're welcome to finish anytime, but bidding and high-value transactions require a verified, complete profile.

How does bidding actually work?

Two ways: manual bids, where you place a direct bid above the current top offer using the platform's minimum increment schedule, or auto-bids (proxy bidding), where you set your true maximum and the system bids incrementally on your behalf until either you win or someone outbids your ceiling.

What are the minimum bid increments?

They scale with the current bid: $0–$2,499 → $50 increments. $2,500–$9,999 → $100. $10,000–$24,999 → $250. $25,000–$49,999 → $500. $50,000+ → $1,000.

How long do auctions run?

Every lot rides the weekly Sunday Close. Lots go live together Wednesday at 9:00 AM Albuquerque time and hit the hammer that Sunday, starting at noon. They close one at a time, site-wide — the six hours from noon to 6 PM divided evenly by the number of lots on the block, so nobody has to watch two cars close in the same minute. Every lot's exact closing time is posted when it goes live Wednesday.

What's the "soft-close" thing I keep hearing about?

Our anti-sniping engine. If a valid bid lands in the final 2 minutes of an auction, the clock resets to 2:00 remaining. That cycle repeats indefinitely until a full 2 minutes pass without a new bid. Nobody's stealing a car in the last 3 seconds with a script. If you want it, you've got to actually fight for it in the open.

Why do I need to authorize a card before bidding?

Because sellers deserve to know that a "winning" bid is backed by a real, verified buyer — not a phantom account with nothing behind it. When you place a bid, Stripe puts a temporary hold on your card for the buyer's premium on that bid: 5%, with a $100 minimum and a $7,500 cap. It isn't a charge, and it is released automatically if someone outbids you or you don't win. It just proves you're serious before you're allowed to play.

Do I need extra verification for expensive cars?

Yes. For auctions or classified offers exceeding $3,000, you'll complete Know Your Customer (KYC) identity verification through Escrow.com — government-issued photo ID and address verification through a secure, encrypted portal. Once it clears, your dashboard badge flips from "unverified" to "approved" in real time, and you're cleared for high-ticket transactions.

What should I do before placing a bid on something?

Read the listing's comment thread, where both community members and The Ghost AI vet condition details and provenance. Use the in-app chat to request specific photos, cold-start videos, or historical documentation. And seriously consider arranging a third-party pre-purchase inspection (like Lemon Squad) or a local garage viewing before you commit — because every bid you place is a legally binding contract, not a "just curious" click.

What happens if an auction doesn't hit its reserve price?

The item doesn't sell. The seller gets the highest bidder's contact info to try negotiating a direct deal, or they can simply revert the listing back to a free classified ad and try again a different way.

Are auctions grouped into anything, or is it just a flat list?

Auctions live inside themed "Auction Blocks" — Desert Barn Finds, Muscle & Iron, that sort of thing. There's no cap on a block. Get your lot submitted and paid by Sunday at 11:59 PM and it goes live the following Wednesday at 9 AM, then closes in its own slot during Sunday's run starting at noon. Miss the cutoff and you ride the next week's Close.

Does it cost anything to list my car?

Free classified listings cost exactly $0. If you want the speed and competitive pressure of a live auction instead, that's a flat $99 upgrade fee — paid once, upfront — and you keep 100% of the hammer price. The buyer covers the platform's 5% premium, not you.

What categories can I list under?

Classics, Projects, Vintage Motorcycles, Parts, Music Gear, or Memorabilia.

How does VIN decoding work for older cars?

For 1981-and-newer vehicles, enter the standard 17-character VIN and we auto-decode it. For anything built before 1981 — back when VINs weren't standardized yet — enter the shorter 5-to-13-character serial number, and the system queries the NHTSA vPIC API to pre-fill manufacturer sequence data, factory specs, and original trim ranges.

How many photos should I actually upload?

20 to 30, minimum, covering: hero exterior angles (3/4 front, 3/4 rear, both profiles), the engine bay and mechanical components, the undercarriage and chassis (this one matters most for structural rust), interior and trim, and clean close-ups of every ID tag — VIN plate, cowl tag, engine casting numbers, and the title itself. Buyers trust what they can actually see.

Can I let AI write my listing description for me?

Yes — activate The Ghost, our resident AI curator. Feed it your photos and basic specs, and it'll generate 2–3 on-brand listing options written in real blue-collar language, not dealership copy. You can also write your own copy in the split-pane Live Markdown Editor if you'd rather do it yourself.

Can I convert a free classified into an auction later?

Yes, in one click, without re-entering any data. Head to your active listing in "My Garage," hit "Convert to Auction," and the system clones your specs, photos, and description straight into an auction draft. Set your starting bid and optional reserve, pick a target Auction Block, and pay the $99 fee. Once Stripe confirms it, your auction goes live and the original classified gets archived with a cross-link pointing visitors to the new auction.

What if the Auction Block I want is already full?

Your listing routes into a secondary queue visible right in your Garage dashboard, showing a real-time countdown to the next available slot. Nothing gets lost — it just waits its turn.

What documentation should I disclose up front?

Everything. Match your title paperwork to the frame or cowl stamping, and disclose the title's actual status — Clean, Salvage, Bill of Sale Only, Missing Title, whatever it is. Hiding a rough title doesn't make it less rough. It just makes the dispute later a lot uglier.

What exactly is The Ghost?

An agentic AI assistant — born, narratively, from bondo dust, vacuum tubes, and overdriven guitar amps — that acts as your listing copilot and boneyard curator. What does it actually cost to sell on 66Relics?

Classifieds: $0, full stop. Auctions: a flat $99 to upgrade a listing, paid once at listing creation — and you keep 100% of your hammer price.

What does it cost to buy?

On classifieds, buyers pay a 2.5% service fee on top of the price, and sellers pay no platform fee. Under $3,000 you pay by card and the seller is paid directly; at $3,000 and up the sale runs through Escrow.com. On auctions, a 5% buyer's premium calculated on the winning hammer price, with a $100 minimum and a $7,500 cap, captured immediately from the hold on your card once you win.

When does the buyer's premium actually get charged?

The moment the auction closes and you're confirmed the winner — captured against the card you pre-authorized when you registered to bid. No separate invoice, no waiting around wondering if it's still pending.

Am I charged anything just for placing a bid?

Not for the bid itself. Bidding places a temporary hold on your card for the buyer's premium on your bid, which is released automatically if you're outbid or don't win. You could lose ten auctions in a row and never pay us a cent.

Are there any hidden fees I should know about?

Why does 66Relics use Escrow.com instead of just processing payment directly?

Because a $99 listing fee and a $50,000 vehicle balance are fundamentally different kinds of money, and they deserve different handling. We decouple the fast-moving platform fee (handled by Stripe) from the high-value asset transfer (handled by Escrow.com's regulated, bonded ledger) specifically so neither side of a transaction is ever exposed to the other's risk.

Walk me through what happens after an auction closes.

The 5% buyer's premium gets captured immediately via Stripe. Then an Escrow.com vehicle ledger is created for the actual purchase price. You, the buyer, fund that vehicle balance via wire or ACH within a 72-hour window. The seller (or a matched carrier) picks up the vehicle and provides tracking and a bill of lading. You get a 3-to-5-day inspection window once it arrives. Only after you accept does Escrow.com release the funds to the seller.

What are the transaction states, exactly?

Created → Agreed → Funded → Shipped → Received → Completed. Every step is visible on your dashboard in real time — you always know exactly where your money and your vehicle stand.

Is my money safe if the seller never ships?

Yes. Funds sit with Escrow.com — not with 66Relics, not with the seller — until the vehicle is received and accepted. If a seller doesn't ship, the funds simply stay locked in escrow. There's no scenario where they get paid for a car they never sent.

Can I use escrow on a regular classified deal, or is that auction-only?

You can opt into it. Escrow is mandatory for auctions, but classified buyers and sellers can mutually agree to use 66Relics Secure Escrow at checkout if they both want that same layer of protection on a private-party deal.

What happens if I don't like the car once it shows up?

That's precisely what the 3-to-5-day inspection window is for. Check it against the listing — VIN, mileage, disclosed condition. If something's materially off, raise it during that window, before funds ever release. Nobody's rushing you to click "accept" the second the trailer leaves.

My car doesn't run. Can I still ship it through the platform?

What are the operability types?

How does the "Make an Offer" system work on classifieds?

A verified buyer submits a binding dollar offer. The seller has 48 hours to respond before it auto-expires. Offers move through a clear lifecycle: pending → accepted, rejected, countered, or expired. If accepted, the listing moves to pending checkout, a transaction record is created, and both parties are prompted into the escrow pipeline (or a local settlement, if they'd rather handle it themselves).

What if the seller counters my offer?

A new offer record gets created with "countered" status, and you're notified. It keeps a clean, traceable negotiation history instead of a scattered text thread nobody can reconstruct later.

Is there a limit on how many offers I can have out at once?

Yes — three active offers across the platform at a time, so nobody's spamming twenty sellers simultaneously and tying up everyone's afternoon.

Can people try to move payment off-platform to dodge fees?

They can try. Our system actively scans message content for phone numbers, external emails, and third-party payment handles like CashApp, Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal, and flags attempts in real time. Off-platform deals lose every safeguard this whole system is built to give you.

Do I need to be verified just to message someone?

Only if the listing's priced above $3,000, or your offer is above that threshold. In that case, you'll need a kyc_status of "approved" or "pending" before you can send a message or place an offer.
