DESCRIPTION

The 1949 GMC Truck Project

This ’49 GMC didn’t come to Toby's 13-acre haven to die; she came here to strip down and wait. Sitting out in the Albuquerque dirt among over 200 other forgotten vehicles, she’s wearing nothing but a hard-baked coat of desert rust over that classic steel. Her grille is gone, her headlights are empty sockets, and the glass has been surrendered to the high desert wind. She’s ugly now, but she’ll break hearts when you’re done.

Take a good long look at this one. While Toby is probably out putting out another fire in the yard, this ’49 GMC is just resting her bare frame in the dirt, holding onto what’s left of her dignity. For years, Rolling Relics was closed to the public , meaning heavy iron like this just sat undisturbed, soaking up the sun and the blues guitar riffs drifting out from the recording studio upstairs.

  • The Face: Look at that front clip. The grille is completely gone, leaving the radiator support exposed like a heavyweight fighter missing his front teeth. Those empty headlight buckets are just staring blindly back at you. The hood sweeps down thick and heavy, wearing a genuine, baked-on rust patina with faint ghosts of original green paint that no custom shop could ever fake.
  • The Bones: She’s resting low to the ground, missing her front shoes, but those classic late-40s GMC lines are undeniable. The front fenders are massive, bruised, and sweeping. It’s pure, thick-gauge steel from an era when trucks were built to haul timber and iron, not groceries.
  • The Belly of the Beast: The split windshield is blown out, and from what you can see through the glassless frames, the cab is a hollowed-out cavern. It’s stripped down to the absolute bare essentials. There's no ancient luxury left to rip out—just a raw, heavy-metal shell waiting for a spark.
This isn't a weekend polish job. It's a resurrection. You want to drop an aftermarket chassis underneath, shove a supercharged modern powerplant behind that empty grille, and build a rat rod that scares the neighbors? Do it. You want to track down the original chrome and bring her back to post-war working-class glory? Your call.

The boneyard has kept her safe this long, but her time standing still is over. Grab a wrench.
