DESCRIPTION

Forget your V8s and your land yachts for a minute. This here is basic transportation at its most honest. A 1972 VW Beetle, or what's left of her. This thing's probably seen more sunsets, music festivals, and bad decisions than most people in Albuquerque. She's been baking in the yard, letting the desert sun do its thing. The air-cooled engine is the original soul of this car — simple, reliable, and built to be fixed with a hammer and a flathead screwdriver. This is what 66 Relics is all about — finding the bones of history and giving them a second chance.

EXTERIOR

The body wears a faded, sun-baked blue paint job that's peeling to reveal plenty of surface rust and patina. The front end is missing a headlight and has some dents, while the rear shows typical wear and tear for a desert dweller. Glass appears mostly intact, but the chrome trim is pitted and the bumpers are long gone. It's a rough canvas, but it's all there waiting for someone with a vision and a sander.

INTERIOR

Step inside and you're greeted by the ghosts of road trips past. The seats are shredded, covered in what looks like old bath towels, and the headliner is hanging on by a thread. The dash is stripped down, missing gauges and radio, and the steering wheel is wrapped in decaying tape. The floor pans are likely a mess, and the door panels are warped and stained. It's a complete gut job, no two ways about it.

UNDERCARRIAGE

While we don't have clear shots of the belly, you can bet your bottom dollar there's rust to contend with. The suspension and brakes will need a complete overhaul, and the exhaust is probably more hole than pipe at this point. Expect to replace floor pans and address structural issues before this bug hits the road again.

ENGINE

The engine bay isn't pictured, but the seller notes mention the original air-cooled soul is still there. Whether it turns over is anyone's guess, but these flat-fours are legendary for their simplicity and rebuildability. You'll be looking at a full mechanical restoration, from fuel lines to wiring, to get this heart beating once more.
